If you have visited Pyramiden Town of Norway, you hold a very special secret. This former Soviet coalmining site on the Svalbard Island was abandoned in 1998 leaving behind a library with books, a culture house and the northmost piano in the world. The newest Riga solo show by Ieva Epnere and the accompanying performance during the White Night at kim? consists of sweet memories brought from this remote place – a token of desire to learn the unknown, power of nature and psychological cycles of human beings.

The audiovisual performance “Waiting for Light to Return” by Ieva Epnere is a result of cooperation with composer Evija Skuķe and artist Sarah Gerats. The live play will be performed by violoncellist Undīne Balode and soloist Laima Lediņa. The performance aims to create an illusion of viewer transferring to Svalbard reality at the time of full solar eclipse. This state is achieved through music and text projections.

Ieva Epnere (born 1977) is Latvian artist living and working in Riga. Focus of her work is photography, video and films, where personal, private stories are the beginning of an artistic reflection on identity, traditions and rituals.
